I just came back from a domestic trip. It was good to have a chance to see other area of China. I was so eager to see Sarah. There were mixed news for her:
Sarah started to crawl. Sounds interesting? She could walk with assistance before she can crawl. She didn't have the space to learn crawling in orphanage. Most of the time of the day, she stayed in her small bed. Children safety has higher priority than education which is understandable. She doesn't know how to coordinate the legs with the arms. She works hard with her arms. The result is pushing her body backward. We brought a small piece of floor mat for her. It was funny that she was scared by the bright color of the mat. It took us several hours to put her on the mat. Now she is pretty happy with her mat. We spent some quality hours with her to teach her how to crawl. I even went to check YouTube for some tips. Now she can crawl forward but only move with two arms and the right leg. I have tried everything to help her using another leg. But it made no difference:-) Any idea?:-)
Sarah started speaking. She could make some sound when we meet her in NanChang. Now she can clearly say "MaMa". But just "MaMa". Everyone in the family tried to teach Sarah to call themselves. She might be confused. Well, I told them to be patient. I am still waiting for "PaPa".
I mentioned early that Sarah has skin infection - scabies. After one treatment cycle, the symptom seem went away. Sarah didn't like the cream especially in this warm summer. We stopped the treatment. We should not. Now we have to continue applying the cream and cover Sarah's hands and feet.

Gah! So cute! :-) She will figure out the crawling soon enough... then the walking... then the running... then the hard part will be trying to keep her in one place! :-)
Children quite often learn to crawl backwards first untill they get full control of thier legs. But I would guess that in a week or 2 she'll start moving forward! Keep in mind, it takes more coordination to crawl on hands and knees then it does to walk, so it really is a huge milestone with they master this new skill.
on a side note, we often put something on the floor in front of them to keep them interested to triing to go forward like candy, money or mommy herself!
